Verb
coīrī
- present passive infinitive of coeō
Middle Irish
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈkoɾʲə/
Noun
coiri
- inflection of coire:
- accusative/dative/genitive singular
- nominative plural
Usage notes
A homophone of the nominative singular coire, but the -i spelling is used for other forms. The Old Irish accusative singular coire, dative singular coiriu, and genitive singular / nominative plural coiri became homophonous in Middle Irish. Under an alternative analysis, coire was feminine, making coiri the expected Old Irish form of the accusative singular, dative singular, and nominative plural; but this is unlikely since the modern descendants as well the Welsh cognate pair are all masculine.
