  1. (engineering) A solid covering over a part of a fire grate, to prevent the entrance of air through that part.
  2. (engineering) A fixed solid piece between two moving conveyors, to span the gap created by the roll-over ends of the conveyors, allowing for the smooth transfer of products from one conveyor to another.
