Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish طقسان (doksan, ninety) from Proto-Turkic *tokuŕ ōn (literally nine tens). By surface analysis, dokuz (nine) +‎ on (ten).

Cognate with Azerbaijani doxsan, Kazakh тоқсан (toqsan), Kyrgyz токсон (tokson), Tuvan тозан (tozan), Yakut тоҕус уон (toğus uon), etc.
