     The Hungarian Council of State supported the Movement in 1919 (at that time Dr. Géza Bárczi, the most prominent living Hungarian linguist, was active), but this sympathy was unfavorable to subsequent development: During the Horthy period, the workers' Esperanto Movement (partly) became a kind of underground organization of the outlawed Communist Party and suffered from the persecutions of state political violence.
