electroconvulsive therapy (usually uncountable, plural electroconvulsive therapies)
- (medicine) A biomedical therapy for severely depressed patients in which a brief electric current is sent through the brain of an anesthetized patient.
The therapeutic effects of low and high energy electroconvulsive therapies are quite different.
