- The stoat (Mustela erminea).
- 1773, Encyclopedia Britannica, Mustella:
- The erminea has divided toes; and the point of the tail is red.
- 1906, Andersch Bros. Hunters and Trappers Guide:
- The peculiar sulphur-like yellow color is noticeable in all species of the erminea, also the pencil-like formation on tip of tail.
- 1985, Paul J. Greenwood, Evolution: Essays in Honour of John Maynard Smith:
- McNab (1971) thought that an area of very small erminea in the southwest of the species range was a result of the absence of the smaller nivalis.
