From Middle Low German vorvoren or German verführen. Equivalent to för- +‎ föra.

Verb

förföra (present förför, preterite förförde, supine förfört, imperative förför)

  1. to seduce, to attract; to induce someone into a sexual relationship.

Usage notes

  • Usage has shifted over the 20th century, from a position where mainly a man could förföra women (in particular virgins),[1] into a more symmetric usage concerning men and women.
