faldistory

From Latin faldistōrium, faldestōrium, from Old High German faldstuol, faldan, faltan (“to fold”) (German falten) + stuol (“stool”), so called because it could be folded or laid together. See fold and stool. Doublet of faldstool, fauteuil, and foldstool.
