From Proto-Albanian *(s)parā, from Proto-Indo-European *sporéh₂ < *sper- (to spread out). Compare Ancient Greek σπόρος (spóros, seed).[1][2][3] Interpreting farë (affinity, kind) as a different word from farë (seed", semen), the former is considered by some as a loanword from Lombardic fara (military clan).[3]
