fiksstjerne

Danish

Etymology

From fiks (fixed) +‎ stjerne (star), calque of Latin stēlla fīxa. Compare also English fixed star, German Fixstern. The term refers to the fact that its relative position in the sky seems constant (or the medieval belief that the stars are set on a sphere concentric to Earth), as opposed to vandrestjerner (wandering stars).
