From Middle High German pfrūme, from Old High German pfrūma (with the r retaken from Latin), from Proto-West Germanic *plūmā, from Latin prūnum, from Ancient Greek προῦμνον (proûmnon). Cognate with German Pflaume, English plum, also Italian prugna, Venetan brónba.
