fuckin' A

English

Etymology

The first attestation in print is from 1947, in Norman Mailer’s World War II novel The Naked and the Dead, wherein Mailer wrote "’You’re fuggin ay,’ Gallegher snorted.”, but the origin of the term certainly predates said usage; it is probable that Mailer was familiar with an extant phrase. The origin is thought to be a clipped form of fucking affirmative, a US Army phrase from the early twentieth century.
