Either the present participle of an otherwise unattested verb fyrsmeortan ("to smart like fire; to feel a burning pain"), from fyr (fire) +‎ *smeortan (to smart; hurt), or formed directly from the present participle of *smeortan, i.e. from fyr +‎ *smeortende.
