From dialectal Tosk gjenj, from Old Albanian gjãnj (Bogdani), from Proto-Albanian *gadnja, from *gʰédnje/o, from Proto-Indo-European *gʰed- (compare English get, Greek κτήση (ktísi, possession), Slovene gádati (to guess)). First attested in Buzuku's work Meshari as E ju të më lypëni e të mos më vgjani (And you to search for me and not find me).[1]
