From Proto-Mon-Khmer *hən ~ *həən (“to grow, to increase”); cognate with Arem hɨən ("more than; to defeat, to win against"), Pacoh hon (“grown”), Bahnar hon (“to grow”), Plang [La Gang] hɔ́n, and Khasi byrhien (“(people) in large numbers”)).
