Usage notes
In the feminine, this word refers to the owner of a house, which, in Hamer society, is always a woman. It is one of only two kinship terms which inflect for gender, the other being kána (“younger sibling”).
In the sense "uncles," specifically refers to the referent's father's younger brothers.
