Etymology
From dialectal Dutch jonger (“boy”), variant of jongen (also jong). Derived from the comparative jonger (“younger”), cf. standard Dutch jongere (“youth, adolescent”). The plural jongers also appears in Dutch dialects with singular jong(en) by analogy with kind > kinders etc.
