jupará
Portuguese
Etymology
Borrowed from Old Tupi îupará.

- (Portugal) IPA(key): /ʒu.pɐˈɾa/
- Rhymes: -a
- Hyphenation: ju‧pa‧rá
Noun
jupará m (plural juparás)
- kinkajou (Potos flavus)
- Synonyms: quincaju, macaco-da-meia-noite
- (loosely) olingo (any mammal of the genus Bassaricyon)
- Synonyms: olingo, gogó-de-sola
- (loosely) any mammal of the subfamily Potosinae
Usage notes
The gender of this Portuguese zoonym is always masculine: when the gender of the being itself must be specified, use “jupará-macho” for male, and “jupará-fêmea” for female. Here, fêmea is treated as an undeclinable noun and doesn't necessarily need to agree in gender with the referent, but would change to fêmeo if so.
