karanderu

Old Tupi

Etymology

Borrowed from Portuguese carneiro (ram). A more expected adaptation would be *karaneru. The realization of /n/ as [nd] can be explained by the known Guaraní influence on Língua Geral Paulista, as is quite noticeable in kambarara (in Língua Geral Amazônica, kamarara).
