Etymology

Borrowed from Balinese ᬓᭂᬭᬾᬦ᭄ (kerén, “has a good appetite”), of unknown origin.[1][2] Sense 2 is either an extension of sense 1, or borrowed from English current (i.e., "trendy"), possibly around the early 19th century when Batavia was under British rule; doublet of koran.[3]
