kick payment

Noun
kick payment (plural kick payments)
- (Medicaid) A payment made to Medicaid Managed Care (MMC) Organizations (including health maintenance organizations (HMOs)) in the United States in the event of a live birth on the part of one of their members. Meant to compensate for the high variability of costs incurred in covering people who have become pregnant and/or given birth, which might create large losses for an MMC in a given year in which an unusually high number of plan members have had children or otherwise required intensive obstetric care.[1]
