Etymology

Aorist of (to let/leave (behind), etc.); from Proto-Albanian *lauša. Related to Gothic 𐌻𐌰𐌿𐍃 (laus, loosen, set free, empty). Further related to Ancient Greek λύω (lúō, to loose, release).[1]

Cognate to Gheg Albanian lash and Arbëresh/Arvanitika Albanian liáse.[2] Cf. Albanian lashtë (old, elderly; left behind).
