  1. A member of the family (Lernaeidae) of parasitic crustaceans found attached to fishes and other marine animals.
    • 1874, Harrison Allen, Outlines of Comparative Anatomy and Medical Zoology, page 131:
      Crustacea.—Embryos are often dissimilar from the adult form. The most conspicuous of these is the larva (Zoe) of the Decapoda, and the active zoeform young of Cirripedia (barnacles) and Lernæacea (lerneans).
