Etymology
A borrowing from Greek λοστός (lostós, “lever, bar”), which is also seen in Bulgarian-Macedonian лосm "bar". The final syllable was perceived as a postfixed article during the borrowing process or was omitted through the morphological borrowing process.[1] Orel incorrectly derived it from the verb loz (“to play”).[2]
