French

Etymology

From Middle French mésaise, mesaise, from Old French meseise, equivalent to més- (mis-, dys-) +‎ aise. The change from feminine in Old French to masculine in French is unexplained, especially as aise has remained feminine, but may be due to influence from malaise m.
