Usage notes

  • môro-chut, rather than a formation from môro, may instead be borrowed from Cantonese 摩囉差 / 摩啰差 (mo1 lo1 caa1) or at least influenced by it. Otherwise, the etymology of chut is unclear.
  • In sense 2, probably not derogatory, where ach'á may be. In addition, most likely describes all Muslims, not specifically South Asian ones (although in the context of Macau, extremely few Muslims hail from elsewhere).
