măgar

See also: magar, Magar, and mågar

Romanian

Etymology

Probably from Latin onāgrārius (from onager) through a Vulgar Latin root *onagarius, which resulted in a hypothetical *unăgariu in early Romanian, leading to un *năgar and ultimately its current state (compare French onagrier).[1]

If not, it might be a substratum word akin to or borrowed from Albanian magar, but this is less likely.
