Etymology
From either Ancient Greek μαδαίος (madaíos) or μαδαρός (madarós, “wet”) + σκώληξ (skṓlēx, “worm”). The second definition is from Latin malva + ibiscum (“Althaea officinalis”) and was influenced by the former one.
