Etymology
Etymology unclear. Cognate with Icelandic maula. Perhaps related to German Maul (“mouth of an animal”) or Southern Sami måvladidh (with same meaning as Norwegian). Attested by Jacob Nicolai Wilse in 1780 in his Spydeberg dialect dictionary (spelled as moule).
