mogoro
Sardinian
Alternative forms
- mògula, mògora
Etymology
Of unknown origin. Hypothesized to be part of a Nuragic substrate. Often compared with Basque mokor (“trunk; lump of earth”), but the semantics is dubious. Notice, however, that words having similar shapes are also found in the Balkans; compare Romanian măgură (“hill”), Albanian magulë (“heap”).
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈmoɡoro/
Noun
mògoro
