Etymology
From what is probably a folk etymology of the Sandia term: ną́ (“hill”) + -phę́- (“cloud”) + -tho (“at”), i.e. “place of the cloud hills”, perceived to be a reference to the sand dunes in the area. Cognate with Southern Tiwa nafį̀’athúde “Sandia Indian”.
