Close to synonymous with utför. Nedför vs. utför can be thought of as "down" vs. "along a downslope." For a downhill slope ((nedförs)backe) on a road, nedför sounds more idiomatic, since the focus is on the road heading down. For downhill skiing (utförsåkning) and the like, utför sounds more idiomatic, since the focus is on moving along a downslope.
