From Proto-Igboid *ɛ́-kʊ́í-tɛ́. Cognate with Ekpeye ákíꜜtá, Ogbah ŋ́kíꜜtá, Ezaa ŋ́kʊ́ꜜtá.[1] Further cognates include Yoruba kítà and Edo ekita.
