From Old Sundanese parigi, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *paʀigi (artificially enclosed catchment for water: well, ditch). Cognate with Old Javanese parigi (low encircling wall of stones; paved bank or slope), Javanese ꦥꦫꦶꦒꦶ (parigi, stone levee), Malay perigi (well).
