From Old Sundanese parigi, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *paʀigi (“artificially enclosed catchment for water: well, ditch”). Cognate with Old Javanese parigi (“low encircling wall of stones; paved bank or slope”), Javanese ꦥꦫꦶꦒꦶ (parigi, “stone levee”), Malay perigi (“well”).
