perplettere

Italian

Etymology

Back-formation from perplesso (perplexed, puzzled), using the expected result from the Latin perplecto. Not in use, with the jocular variant perplimere, created by false analogy, being already rare enough, yet more recognizable.

Pronunciation

  • Rhymes: -ɛttere
  • Hyphenation: per‧plèt‧te‧re

Verb

perplèttére (first-person singular present perplètto, first-person singular past historic perplèssi, past participle perplèsso, auxiliary avére)

  1. (rare, transitive) to perplex
