From qʷidičča-q- (Makah) +‎ -ʔatx̌ (man of a tribe, band, tribe), said to mean either "the people who live by the rocks and seagulls", "the people who live on the cape by the seagulls", or "people of the point". Cognates include Nootka qʷiniščiʔatḥ.
