redhorse

English

Etymology

From red +‎ horse. So named because of the red fins on many species, although the animal's similarity to a horse is unclear.

Noun

redhorse (plural redhorses)

  1. Any of various ray-finned fish in the genus Moxostoma.

Another thing: most native Ozarkers actually prefer suckers to either bass or trout, and will regularly pass up game fish in order to strike at a big redhorse or hogmolly!
