1. A warbler, of species of Acrocephalus scirpaceus in family Acrocephalidae, native to Eurasia and Africa. [from 18th c.]

     Familiar summer-morning bird song rises from the trees, reeds and bushes – song thrush, wren, reed bunting and the rhythmic, steady, repeated “chit-chit-chit” of a reed warbler.

2. Any of various similar Old World birds of the same genus, especially great reed warbler (A. arundinaceus) and clamorous reed warbler (A. stentoreus).
