From Proto-Albanian *srūmā, from Proto-Indo-European *srow-m-eh₂, from *srew- (“to flow”). Compare English stream, German Strom (“current, stream”), Icelandic straumur (“current, stream, torrent, flood”), Ancient Greek ῥεῦμα (rheûma, “stream, flow”). Doublet of rrym.
