sahut

Indonesian

Etymology

Apparently from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *saʀut (answer, reply), though likely via a borrowing from another language, due to the irregular sound correspondence of PMP > h rather than the expected r. Compare Tagalog sagót (reply).
