From Old Sundanese sampura (forgiveness, mercy; favor) + sun (I, me, my). Literally, "I ask for [your] forgiveness/mercy". Compare Malay tabik from Sanskrit क्षन्तव्य (kṣantavya, may I be pardoned; pardon me).
