sanera (present sanerar, preterite sanerade, supine sanerat, imperative sanera)

  1. to clean up, to decontaminate, to sanitize
    Marken kring den gamla fabriken är giftig och måste saneras
    The land around the old factory is toxic and needs to be decontaminated
  2. to redevelop (a neighborhood)

Usage notes

Implies a bad contamination, like toxins or radioactive material. English sanitize may partly be considered a false friend.
