Etymology

From Old Irish sceith, verbal noun of sceïd,[1] from Proto-Indo-European *skeyt- (“to vomit, retch, shit”, literally “to shed”). Cognate with Welsh chwydu (“to vomit”) and English shit.

The verb sceith is derived from the noun.
