From Proto-Balto-Slavic *sēˀg-,[1] from Proto-Indo-European *se(n)g-.[1] Cognate with Slovene sẹ́či (to reach for),[1][2] Sanskrit सजति (sájati, to cling to)[1][2] and Latin noun seges (cornfield).[2]
