Gheg form of Standard Albanian shqiptare f (“Albanian”). Compound of shqyp + -tare; shqyptare f (“Albanian”).
shqip is the Standard Albanian form of Gheg shqyp, which was written in Gheg as "sccyp"[1] in "Fialuur i voghel sccyp e ltinisct" (1895) and as šḱĭp/šḱip in "ΔΙΑΤΑ Ε RĒ" (1872).[2]
