From Old Swedish skröpelīker. Probably from dialectal skryp, suffixed with -lig. Compare Old Norse skrjúpr (frail, weak). Cognate of Danish skrøbelig, Norwegian Bokmål skrøpelig, Norwegian Nynorsk skrøpeleg.
