From Old Sundanese sraṅeṅe (“sun”), from Old Javanese sṛŋeŋe,[1] from Old Javanese saṅ hyaṅ we (“the sun god/the day god”) with the infix -r- (“repeated, continuing, multiple actions”). Cognate with Javanese ꦱꦽꦔꦺꦔꦺ (srengéngé).
