suikerij
Dutch
Etymology
From Middle Dutch sukereye, a folk etymological interpretation of cicoreije, from Old French cicoree, from Late Latin *cichōria, from Latin cichōrium, from Ancient Greek κιχόριον (kikhórion). Doublet of cichorei. Superficially equivalent to suiker (“sugar”) + -ij (“a suffix that forms abstract nouns”).
Cognate to English chicory and succory, the latter being a borrowing from the same Middle Dutch source.
