Borrowed from Middle English tights, from tight, from Old English *þiht, from Proto-West Germanic *þį̄ht(ī), from Proto-Germanic *þinhtaz, from Proto-Indo-European *ten- (“to stretch, pull”). Doublet of tyn (“tight”).
