Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *tsanidā,[1] from Proto-Indo-European *-níd- (“nit”). Compare Serbo-Croatian gnjida, Old High German hniz, Greek κόνιδα (kónida) (κονίς (konís)). Matzinger suggests *ćanidā as the Proto-Albanian form instead.[2]
